How it works in four steps
No pressure and no commitment at any stage. You can stop after any step.
Send details
Submit a description of your items. Include any karat marks (10k, 14k, 585, 750) and the weight if you know it. Photos can be emailed after you submit.
Get a quote range
After reviewing what you sent, you receive a spot-based quote range. It is an estimate only, because nothing has been tested or weighed yet.
Choose local or mail-in
Meet in Vermont, or send your items by insured, tracked shipping. Nearby NH, NY and MA sellers can use mail-in.
Offer after testing
Once your items are weighed and tested, you receive a firm offer based on what was found. You decide whether to accept.
Karat, weight and why payout follows spot and purity
Scrap gold is valued for the pure gold it contains, not for how it looks or what it once cost. Three things matter: the live spot price of gold, the purity of the piece, and its weight.
Karat and purity
Karat (k) shows how many parts out of 24 are pure gold. The rest is other metal such as copper, silver or zinc. Many pieces also carry a stamp showing parts per thousand.
| Karat | Pure gold | Common stamp |
|---|---|---|
| 24k | about 99.9% | 999 / 24K |
| 22k | about 91.7% | 916 / 22K |
| 18k | 75.0% | 750 / 18K |
| 14k | 58.3% | 585 or 583 / 14K |
| 10k | 41.7% | 417 / 10K |
Weight: grams and pennyweight
Gold is weighed in grams or pennyweight (dwt). One troy ounce is 31.1035 grams, and 1 dwt is about 1.555 grams. Spot prices are quoted per troy ounce. Weigh on a kitchen scale if you like, but weigh only the metal, because gemstones and non-gold parts are not valued as gold.
Plated or gold-filled items, and pieces with stamps like "GP", "GF" or "HGE", generally contain too little gold to have meaningful scrap value. Stamps can also be misleading, which is why testing matters.
What we buy
If it contains gold and you are no longer using it, send details and we will tell you whether it is something we can quote.
Gold jewelry
Chains, rings, bracelets, pendants, single earrings, class rings, and broken or mismatched pieces.
Scrap gold
Damaged or tangled pieces, odd links, clasps and findings that are stamped as karat gold.
Dental gold
Crowns, bridges and dental scrap. Purity varies widely, so testing matters most here.
Gold coins
Bullion and other gold coins. Some coins carry value beyond their gold content, so describe what you have.
Mail-in safety
Mailing valuables should feel safe. A few habits protect you, whoever you sell to.
Ship insured and tracked
Use a carrier service that offers tracking and declared-value insurance. Keep your receipt and tracking number.
Photograph before you send
Take clear photos of every item, and of the scale reading if you weighed them. Photograph the packed parcel too.
Pack plainly
Use a sturdy box, cushioning and no outside markings that suggest valuables. Put your name and contact details inside.
Offers can be declined
You are not obliged to accept an offer. If you decline, items are returned under the written mail-in terms. Ask for those terms before you ship, including who pays return shipping.
Please do not ship anything until you have received our written reply to your request and are comfortable with the arrangements.
Questions people ask
What should I get in writing before I sell?
Whoever you sell to, ask for written answers to these before any meet-up or shipment:
- What identification is required, and how it is recorded.
- How payment is made, and when.
- How your items will be weighed and tested.
- Where a local meet-up would take place.
- The return terms if you decline an offer, including who pays return shipping.
Put these questions in your quote request and we will reply in writing.
Do I need an appointment?
Start by sending a quote request. For a local meet-up in Vermont, the time and place are arranged with you after we have reviewed your details. We do not list a walk-in location on this page.
How is purity tested?
In the trade, purity is commonly checked by reading hallmarks, then confirmed with acid testing, electronic testing or XRF analysis, and items are weighed on a scale. Ask us which method will be used on your items when you request a quote. Stamps alone are not treated as proof of purity.
What if I decline the offer?
An offer is not a commitment on your side. For a local meet-up, you simply keep your items. For mail-in, items are returned according to the written terms, so please ask for them before you ship.
What ID is required?
Identification requirements are not listed on this page. Ask when you request your quote and get the requirements in writing before any meet-up or shipment.
How is payment made?
Payment methods are not listed on this page. Ask when you request your quote, and make sure the method is stated in writing before you accept an offer.
Is the quote a guaranteed price?
No. A quote is an estimate based on the live spot price and the details you provide. The offer is made after your items have been inspected, weighed and tested, and it may differ from the estimate.
I live outside Vermont. Can I still sell?
